VSA – Chapter 76: The Villain is a Bad, Bad Man.

Translator: Haruto.

“…”

“…”

Hibari and I remain completely silent. Absolutely nothing is heard in the room. Having invited her out, I’m curious to hear her reply. That’s why I’m patiently waiting in silence.

“…”

“…?”

E-Ermm… She sure is taking her time. I kind of expected her to say yes in a heartbeat…

“Yuuji-sama.”

“Y-Yeah?”

Hibari takes one step toward me, then another. She moves her hand in the direction of mine, which I’m still holding in the air, and—

She grabs it.

“…”

“O-Ohh…”

A handshake?

I guess this means she accepts my invitation—

“O-Ouuuuuuch?!”

My hand is being squeezed hard. The one doing it is, of course, Hibari.

“H-Hibari?!”

“…”

She keeps squeezing my hand without saying a word. It’s not too painful, so I’m sure she’s being careful not to overdo it, but… man, she’s still surprisingly strong! I can only feel bad for the dude who got his jewels kicked by Hibari when he tried to force her to hang out with him.

After some time, she lets go of my hand.

“Umm… Hibari?”

Hibari is wearing her usual deadpan expression, however, I get the feeling she’s a little upset for some reason.

“The way you phrased your invitation can be easily misunderstood, so please be more careful next time.”

“O-Okay?”

“From the looks of it, you don’t really understand the gravity of your error.”

“Ermm… Honestly, I don’t get what’s so wrong about the way I invited you out. I simply tried to come up with a cool way to do it…”

“I see… I still believe you should have chosen another way to do so. For example…”

Ohh! It looks like Hibari is about to teach me the proper way to ask a girl out!

“I’m your maid, so I believe all you needed to say was ‘Come on, Maid! Get a move on! We’re going out!’”

“That’s freaking lame! I know that’s what people would expect from someone who looks like me, but being all overbearing like that is just lame!”

I’d sound like I’m one of those violent loan sharks or something!

“Besides, I’d never ask a girl out in such a rude way, especially one as good-looking as you, Hibari…”

“…”

“Hibari?”

“It’s nothing…”

“Alright? Anyway, what’s your reply?”

She still hasn’t answered my invitation.

I look at Hibari, and she stares back into my eyes…

“I’m looking forward to it.”

“G-Great.”

So, she’s on board with the idea, huh?

Awesome! It’s decided, then. Hibari and I are going on an outing!

“Let’s make tons of great summer memories together!”

I’m so pumped about it!

“What will be our destination, by the way? And our schedule? Our budget? Our means of transportation?” Hibari asks.

“Ah…”

Shoot… I haven’t thought about any of that.

“It appears you haven’t thought about any of that.”

“U-Umm… You’re right… I haven’t…”

I was too focused on figuring out the best way to invite her out. And now that I think about it, it would have been way cooler if I had asked her out after deciding on the place and prepared everything we might have needed!

“I suppose the fact that you’ve asked me out without having decided on the place and time just goes to show how much you were looking forward to having me completely at your disposal.”

“Don’t make it sound so lewd! But, yeah, it’s true. I’ve really been looking forward to going out with you, Hibari…”

“I see… Me too…”

It was nothing but a whisper, but it did not escape my ears. Even if it’s just through her words, it makes me happy that Hibari doesn’t hide how she really feels when she’s with me.

“Well then, how about we decide what we’ll be doing together?” she proposes.

“Great idea. Ah! I just remembered I heard someone in my class mention a nice spot for—”

And so, the two of us begin discussing the destination of our little outing.

***

Would you go out with me? he said, extending his hand to me.

I couldn’t believe my ears for a moment. I had no idea how I should answer.

However, I immediately realized that Yuuji-sama’s intentions were not what I first imagined.

While his eyes and expression reflected a tinge of nervousness, his demeanor was nothing but kind and gentle. Once again, his words held no special meaning. He was simply being nice.

I did not have any reason to refuse, though… which is why I grabbed the hand he held out to me.

The moment the tips of our fingers touched, I felt both slightly nervous and warm inside. His hand was large and strong but also gentle, befitting someone as kind as him.

…I then tried coming up with something to say, and with his hand in mine, I—

The way you phrased your invitation can be easily misunderstood, so please be more careful next time.

I wished to convey the fact that he should be more careful with his words since even I had briefly misunderstood his intentions…

Would you go out with me?

Just the thought of him saying that to another girl makes me feel… restless.

“How about this place, Hibari?! This attraction looks like so much fun, and—”

Yuuji-sama is now by my side, obviously enjoying himself and feeling excited as though he’s chatting with a good friend of his.

He’s quite peculiar, indeed. No one has ever treated me like this before.

Yuuji-sama, you don’t have to worry about me… As long as I get to be by your side, my time is all yours.

It might have been unlike me to say something like that, but… those words remain true even now.

And Yuuji-sama hasn’t changed either… He keeps tugging at my heartstrings without realizing it himself… What a bad, bad man he is.
